Augustine (Gus) M. Zerr at the age of 97 of Quinter passed away Monday, July 1st, 2024, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter, Kansas.
He was born April 24th, 1927, on a family farm, southwest of Park, Kansas to Christopher and Barbara Zerr. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church, Park, Kansas.
In 1931, his parents moved the family to a farm six miles south of Park. This was his home until he moved to Quinter, Kansas in 1987.
He went to Spring Creek Country School, and then went on to Park Rural High School. After graduation, he was called to serve in the United States Army Ordnance Corps at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland. After returning home in 1947, he went to school at Fort Hays College, in Kansas, and then on to Regis College in Denver, Colorado. He was needed back home to help on the farm, so he returned home and started farming.
On May 1st, 1951, he married Phyllis Jean Racette at Immaculate Conception Church, Grinnell, Kansas. They were married 73 years.
He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He also was a Board Member for USD #292 when they were building the Unified Wheatland High School, a long time Board Member of the Gove County Hospital, First National Bank, and Gove County Rural Development.
Augustine (Gus) was a very knowledgeable man that shared his wisdom freely whenever asked. He loved going to the sale barn to buy cattle and visit with his friends. He found joy driving around in the country to look at the cattle and to check on the crops. (wheat ~ corn ~ milo ~ whatever was growing).
He so enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Peter, two children, Belinda and Timothy, one grandchild, Jamie Windholz, and one great grandchild, Felicity Zerr.
