Carmelita M. Pomeroy, a beautiful soul flew up to Heaven on Tuesday,
April 4, 2023. Carmelita (Wedman) was born December 19, 1932, in
Danville, Kansas, the daughter of Francis & Laura (Oliver) Wedman,
where she was raised on a farm and grew up with 7 siblings.
She married Carl Pomeroy on November 26, 1951, in Danville, Kansas.
They lived in Stockton, Kansas, for a short time before moving to
Garden City in 1967. They have lived in Garden City and Lakin since. A
homemaker, Carmelita was a wonderful mother and fantastic cook, and
loved to spend her time cleaning, gardening, fishing, camping, and
enjoyed going to the casino. She had a love for little children and
were the light of her life. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic
Church in Garden City and the Altar Society.
Survivors include her three children Carolyn (John) Shanley of
Thornton, Colorado, Marilyn Tucker of Garden City, Kansas, and Michael
(Diane) Pomeroy of Newton, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Carmelita is preceded
in death by her husband Carl who died on December 7, 2015. She is also
preceded in death by a son-in-law George Tucker; and as the last
surviving member of her siblings, she is also preceded in death by 5
brothers Bob Wedman, Donald Wedman, Gerald Wedman, Dennis Wedman, &
Dale Wedman; and 2 sisters Mary Kathryn Moritz and Julia Ann Moritz.
Carmelita will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
A Vigil service & Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday,
April 10, 2023, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 11, 2023,
also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Warren Stecklein as
Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Friends may call from Noon to 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Garnand Funeral
