Harold E. 'Gene' Heronemus, Dighton

March 9, 1930 - September 30, 2023

DIGHTON - Harold E. “Gene” Heronemus, 93, died on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. He was born on March 9, 1930 at Hoisington the son of George and Amelia (Wilhelm) Heronemus.

He married Mary Elizabeth Honea on June 11, 1949 at Purvis, Mississippi, and they had three children. Betty died on November 21, 1989. He later married Delores J. (Lewis) Randecker on September 12, 1992 at Dighton.

Gene attended Dighton High School. He joined the United States Air Force where he was active for one year and in Reserves for five years.

After his discharge he and his family lived in Oklahoma City before moving back to Dighton in 1964.

He was a truck driver for 36 years. In Dighton he hauled cattle for O.C. Wilcox from 1964 to 1979. He moved to Dallas and retired from trucking in 1992 and moved back to Dighton. After retiring he helped area farmers, mainly hauling grain.

Gene is survived by his wife, Delores and his sister, Louise Folerts of Hutchinson, as well as six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Betty, his daughter Shirley, his two sons David and Gary Heronemus, and his brother Norman Heronemus.

There will be no local services held. Burial will be in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas.
