Esther Eva Mellies, 98, died August 18, 2022, in Dodge City, KS. She was born on January 30, 1924, in WaKenney, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Mollie (Schneider) Stenzel.
Esther grew up on a farm in WaKeeney and attended schools in Trego County. She moved to Dodge City in 1946 and has been a resident ever since. She married Edward Mellies on October 19, 1957, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Dodge City, KS. She owned and operated Esther’s Beauty Salon until 1973. Esther was a homemaker and enjoyed doing arts and crafts.
She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and served in various women’s associations with the church and other church activities.
Esther is survived by many nieces and nephews and many extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband; nine brothers; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, with Pastor Corky Spittler presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Memorial Garden in Dodge City, KS. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 22, 2022, from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. the casket will remain closed.
