Kenneth McClure, age 82, of Stockton, died July 5, 2023, at the McPherson Hospital in McPherson.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1940, in Phillipsburg to Woodrow and Beulah Leota (Meracle) McClure.
Kenneth and his sister, Betty, were raised on the family farm west of Phillipsburg where he learned the value of hard work.
He attended country school in Phillips County and furthered his education at Phillipsburg High School, joining the U.S. Army soon after his 18th birthday. His Army and Kansas Army National Guard tenure lasted eight years.
One of the many highlights of his life happened in 1963 when he met and married Brenda Joan (Elliott) McClure, and from this union, they were blessed with two children: Jo Ann and Jeffrey Lee.
Ken worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Rooks and Phillips Counties for 34 years, while also farming and ranching in Phillips County. He retired from K-DOT in 2000 but never retired from farming and ranching – raising wheat and cattle in Rooks and Phillips counties to his dying day.
The family moved to Stockton from Phillipsburg in 1971 while Ken was working for K-DOT.
Kenneth is survived by his wife: Brenda, of the home; daughter: Jo Ann, Salina; son: Jeffrey and wife Julie and granddaughter, Bailey, McPherson; sister: Betty Miller, Shawnee; brother-in-law: William Elliott, Glade; together with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law: Barbara Pfannenstiel, and brother-in-law: Lyman Miller.
Graveside services, inclusive of Military Honors, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15 in the Stockton Cemetery – Webster Addition, 300 N. Water St., Stockton, KS 67669.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: Stockton FFA, in care of the Funeral Chapel, Box 86 Hays, KS 67601.
