Allen Scott Cheney, 53, of Rexford, KS died Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He was born July 21, 1970, to John and Phyllis (Dahl) Cheney, in Colby, KS.

Allen graduated from Golden Plains High School, in Rexford, KS, in 1988. He attended Goodland Vo-Tech and completed the carpentry program. He also received an associate degree from Colby Community College.

Allen spent several years working as a carpenter and roofing houses. He then started working for Frontier Ag and became the manager at the Rexford elevator. Allen enjoyed his work, maybe a little too much, and made several friends throughout the years. He also served as the Rexford Fire Chief.

Allen was loyal, funny, honest, and would tell it like it is. He enjoyed tractors, guns, farming, dogs and spending time with his mom. He also liked spoiling his goddaughter, Amanda Cheney. He tolerated hugs from his relatives and his younger cousins called him “Uncle Alf.” Allen was a good man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Allen was preceded in death by his dad John Cheney; grandparents, Bill and Blanche Cheney and Jay and Donna Dahl; uncles and aunts, Jay and Nancy Dahl and Barney and Vickie Barnett; cousins, Tommy Korte and Kyler Petersen, as well as numerous other family members and friends. He is survived by his mother Phyllis Cheney; dogs Dexter and Ardie; aunts and uncles, Katie and Mike Petersen and Sondra Dahl; cousins Michael (Nicole) Petersen, Lisa (Tony) Bice, Shawna Petersen, Tina (John) Anderson, Linda (Bob) Dunn, Tim Dahl, Trever (Deanne) Barnett, Matt (Lynn) Cheney and Eric Korte and many other cousins and friends.

Visitation will take place from 4-6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Rexford Community Church, Rexford, with burial in the Rexford Cemetery.
