Shirley F. Finnesy, of Plainville, KS, passed away on February 5, 2024, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. She was born on March 4, 1935, to Herman B. and Carrion A. (Clements) Mason in Hays, KS. She married Richard Duane Finnesy on July 31, 1953, in Plainville. They were blessed with two children: Tom and Dee.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1953. She worked at USD 270 as a cook, then the Plainville City Office as the Clerk’s Assistant, and then for Finnesy Grain & R.D. Finnesy Oil as a bookkeeper. She also helped on the farm and was a great farm wife. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plainville.
Shirley was a seamstress and made many clothes for her kids. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed painting, getting outdoors, gardening at the farm, fishing in her younger years, football games, and Facebook. She loved spending time with Richard. They were always together and for each other during their celebrated 70 years of marriage. Shirley also loved spending time with her 21 grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Tom Finnesy and Dee (Bill) Mills, both of Plainville; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Preceding Shirley in death are her parents; husband, Richard; brothers, Dale Mason, Bill Mason, Norman Mason, and Roscoe Mason; and sister, Betty VanSchuyver.
Shirley worked hard but joyfully. As a loving, caring mother, her family was second only to God; and although she has now gone home to be with her Lord, the legacy of her love, laughter, and joy will live in our hearts and memories forever. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories will never be forgotten.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 2PM at the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 2-4PM with the family receiving friends 2-3PM at the funeral home in Plainville.
