John D. 'JD' Snedden

John D. Snedden, also known as "JD”, son of John D. Snedden Sr. and Evelyn V. (Hobbie) Snedden, was born on February 28, 1939,  in Osborne, KS. He went to be with our Lord on April 11, 2023.

He grew up in Beloit, KS and graduated from Beloit High School. After graduation he joined the Navy. He served his country from November 14, 1957, until October 30, 1961. His duties were served on the USS Currituck. His occupation was Hydrualics Assembler.

On March 26, 1960, he married Janet Heidrick and later divorced. To this union 4 children were born. Daughters; Chris (JB) File, Gina (Robert) Chitty, Kimberly Kay, (deceased) and a son, Shannon.

During his lifetime, he drove a truck for 7-up in Beloit, and a local Co-op in Beloit. He worked for Archer Daniel Midland, ADM, as a welder, in Salina, and retired for about 6 months and went work for Ellsworth Correctional Facility, as a guard. He also did a short stint as a guard at the Minneapolis jail.

JD’s favorite pastime hobbies were hunting with his cousins in Smith Center, and fishing with his son and a couple friends out in Assaria. Making furniture was also something he liked doing. He also liked going to our local racetrack once in a while. He attended several cooking seminars and was a great cook.

He married Carol Snedden on June 23, 1983.  Rob McKown was also brought into his family at that time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kimberly; brothers, Frank (George), and Larry, and father-in-law Max Slothower.

He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters, Chris (JB) File, Gina (Robert) Chitt; son, Shannon (Kelly) Snedden and stepson Rob McKown; a sister, Nancy Heiman and 7 grand kids, and 6 great grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews and friends and family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials are suggested to the family to help defray medical expenses.
