Kenneth Keith 'Kenny' King Jr.

Kenneth Keith “Kenny” King Jr., of Nickerson, died August 21, 2022, at his home. He was born November 7, 1951, in Norfolk, VA, to Kenneth K. and Carroll E. (Alexander) King Sr.

Kenny graduated from Nickerson High School in 1969. He served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1974. Kenny was a machinist at Cessna/Eaton for 41 years, retiring as Supervisor of Quality Control. He was baptized in the First Christian Church of Nickerson at the age of 12. Kenny enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, collecting John Wayne and Elvis Presley memorabilia, and doing genealogical research.

On November 26, 1984, he married Donna (Gardner) Payne. She died February 19, 2012.

Kenny is survived by: his children, Andy Gardner of Nickerson, Donna Truitt (David) of Hutchinson, David Gardner of Norton, John Powell (Kathy) of Hutchinson, Jeffery Payne of Nickerson; siblings, Karen Curtis of Wichita, Deb Smethers of Atwood, Carl King (Karel) of Hutchinson, Cheryl Hemphill (Mike) of Nickerson, Janice Butcher of De Soto, MO; Edward King (Juanita) of Hutchinson, Sandra Reger (Perry) of Hutchinson, Teresa Strickland (Tim) of Cunningham, Ernest King of Nickerson, Linda Kinsley (Gaylord) of Wichita, Earl King (Jami) of Nickerson; brothers-in-law, John Leth-Nissen of Benton, Michael Talent of Pretty Prairie; sister-in-law, Carmen King of Walkendorf, Germany; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughters, Debbie Thurman, Sherry Gronwick; siblings, Ellen Leth-Nissen, Marsha Talent, Walt King, Loren King; and grandsons, Brian Hemphill and T.J. Powell.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. The service will be livestreamed and the link below to view it will be active at 1:45 p.m. the day of the service.
