Posted Mar 26, 2023 4:47 PM

Kathryn Kay “Katie” Currier nee Treu died on March 20, 2023, in Alamosa, CO, at the age of 84. She was born on July 26, 1938, to John and Mable (Haynes) Treu.

Katie was raised in Sheridan County, Kansas, and after graduating from Sheridan County High School, she married Ed Currier on June 9, 1957. They were married 63 years until his death in January 2021. Katie helped Ed on their farm but also held various jobs in the Hoxie, Kansas school system - her favorite being as an aide for the special needs classes at the Grade School. After they sold their farm in Sheridan County, Ed and Katie moved to Colby, Kansas, where Katie enjoyed working in various shops. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Alamosa, Colorado.

Katie loved style and beauty and had a knack for putting together outfits, rooms, and gardens like a professional. She passed her love of gardening and her appreciation of beauty to her two daughters, Patta and Paulette. Katie was a believer in Jesus Christ and was active in the churches that she attended. She and Ed left a legacy of faith to their children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Katie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Willard Treu.

She is survived by daughters Patta (Steve) Dietz of Prosper, Texas and Paulette (Randall) Kiker of Red River, New Mexico; four grandchildren: Trent (Amanda) Dietz of Abilene, Texas, Garrett (Sarah) Dietz of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dallas Kiker of Red River, New Mexico, and Chase Kiker of Tolar, Texas; four great-grandchildren; sisters Elsie Pickett of Overland Park, Kansas, Norma Boxler of Hoxie, Kansas, and Betty Morken of Genesee, Idaho; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hoxie Christian Church.
