Marvin J. Richmeier, 85, died Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born June 6, 1938, at St. Peter, Kansas, the son of Wendeline & Mary (Boxler) Richmeier.
Marvin and his family moved to the family farm North of Holcomb, Kansas shortly after he was born. He attended Holcomb schools and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1967. He then served in the United States Army from July of 1957 to April of 1959. On February 20, 1960, he married Barbara Ann Jones in Garden City. A lifetime farmer and stockman, Marvin enjoyed spending his time gardening, canning, and collecting antiques especially antique tractors. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion.
Survivors include three children Michelle & husband Chris Law of Garden City, Michael Richmeier of Garden City, and Mark & wife Dana Richmeier of Holcomb, Kansas; two brothers Francis Richmeier of Garden City and Gary Richmeier of Shell Knob, Missouri; 7 Grandchildren; and 3 Great-Grandchildren. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife Barbara who died on November 10, 2013. He is also preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers Arthur Richmeier, Lawrence Richmeier, Leo Richmeier, Robert Richmeier, & Elmer Richmeier; and 2 sisters Helen Appelhans and Mary Richmeier.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Funeral Mass following at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Tim Hickey as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with Military graveside rites conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard and the Southwest Kansas Area Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Historical Society or to the Kansas Honor Flight, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
