Marilyn Matilda Button, 89, passed away March 6, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend, Kan. She was born April 16, 1934, in Great Bend, to Fred & Mary (Janne) Hiss. She married Charles S. Button on May 24, 1952, in Great Bend. He died May 2, 2019.
A lifetime Great Bend resident, Marilyn was a seamstress at Howard’s for many years. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was involved in Women’s Fellowship, Church Book Study and a Sunday School Co-Superintendent with Lela Glover, she was also a member of Fort Zarah EHU, Fort Zarah 4-H Club and 4-H council.
Survivors include a son, David Button of Great Bend; three daughters, Kathryn Button and husband Darrel Ratlief of Geneseo, Lori Vincent and husband Jack of Hill City and Carolyn Sutherland and husband John of Bel Aire; a brother, Loren Hiss of Great Bend; a sister, Verna Hewitt of Ellinwood; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Button; and two brothers, Lawrence Hiss and Edwin Hiss.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastors Debby Rains and Mike Munz presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to ALS Mid-America Chapter of Wichita, Kan., in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
