GARDEN CITY—Joanne Werner, 91, died on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at The Ranch House in Garden City.

She was born on July 3, 1932, at Canyon, Texas, the daughter of Lawrence Jacob & Julia (Frary) Fulton Sr.

She married Wesley Werner on Nov. 21, 1951, at Garden City. Joanne attended school at Canyon, Texas, and graduated high school from Wildorado, Texas, High School. She then graduated from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.

After her marriage, they moved to Garden City where she worked at Dairy Queen and John’s Motors before becoming a farm wife with her husband on the family farm. She later was a cook at the Garden City Police Department, worked at IBP and was a subpara for the Garden City School District.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and past member of the Lions Club, Gray County EHU. She enjoyed cooking and gardening but most of all being involved with her family activities.

She is survived by her husband Wesley Werner, son David and Wendy Werner of Neosho, Mo.; three grandchildren Kira and Austin Mitchell of Joplin, Mo., Aaron Abrigo of Summerville, Tenn., and Amber Towns of Garden City; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two daughters Patricia Werner and Marjorie Abrigo, two sisters and two brothers.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev Jim Akins officiating.

Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Joann Werner Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
