Laura L. Craig passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas at the age of 81.
Laura was born on January 22, 1942 in Herndon, Kansas the daughter of William M. and Helen (Barenberg) Kogl. She was the youngest of six children born to them.
Laura attended a country school in Rawlins County, and graduated from the Atwood Community Rural High School in 1960.
After attending Brown-Mackie School of Business, she began working at the Norton State Sanatorium. She continued working there through the years it served as a state hospital for the mentally retarded. In later years she was a relief postal employee, worked in the Norton County Clerk’s Office. The last several years she was a court clerk in the Norton County District Court.
Laura also volunteered her time at the Prairie Dog Press from its start in 1987.
Laura was united in marriage to Harry Wade Craig on June 21, 1980, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton, Kansas. The marriage was blessed by the birth of their only son, Andrew Gerard Craig, on July 13, 1983.
Harry died on August 17, 1997, and Andrew was tragically killed in an automobile accident on July 29, 2000.
Laura was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi parish in Norton, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harry Craig, son Andrew Craig, brothers Wilbert, Ronald, and Edmond Kogl, and sisters Agneta Kogl and Ellen Dewey.
Survivors include her many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton, with Father Matthew Cowan officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Almena, Kansas.
Prior to the service, a rosary will be held at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, at 9:30 a.m.
