Delma Darlene Calvin, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on June 28, 2023, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas at the age of 78. She was born on December 25, 1944, to Lenard and Thelma (Roberts) Fairchild in Scott City, Kansas.

Delma grew up on a farm near Russell Springs, Kansas.

She met Max E. Calvin while attending Russell Springs High School and married him on June 25, 1960. They moved to Haysville, Kansas and she completed her high school education at Campus High School. They were blessed with three sons: Harley, Chris and Paul. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Max and Delma moved to WaKeeney in 1970. She was a full-time mother until she went to work at Boogaart’s Grocery Store where she remained employed for 40 years.

Delma enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking her world-famous chicken and noodles at holiday meals, canning, and growing flowers. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, and loved spending time with her family, especially on holidays.

Delma is survived by her husband, Max of WaKeeney; sons, Harley (Christy) Calvin of Ellis, KS and Chris (Jennifer) Calvin of Hays, KS; sister, Vada Turley of Scott City, KS, Angie Calvin (daughter-in-law) of WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Chelsey (Casey) Woken of Altoona, IA, Kyle (Jenny) Calvin of Wichita, Ashley Calvin of WaKeeney, Trevor (Holly) Calvin of Hays, Alexa and Paula Calvin of WaKeeney, Preston and Zachery Calvin of La Crosse; and four great-grandchildren, Brexlyn Woken, Lincoln and Briar Calvin and Titan Calvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Paul (daughter-in-law Leslie Redman) Calvin; brother, Darrel Fairchild; and sister, Verla Sanders.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the WaKeeney Church of God in WaKeeney, KS. Burial will follow at the WaKeeney City Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the WaKeeney VFW following the burial. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Church of God.
