🤼 Russell claims Hoisington regional team title

HOISINGTON – The Russell Broncos qualified six wrestlers for the 3-2-1A state tournament on their way to bringing home the team championship at the Hoisington regional tournament on Saturday.

Phillipsburg qualified seven wrestlers and finished second.

Russell had four individual champions in the tournament, and Phillipsburg finished with three.

Russell’s Xzander Donner (106 pounds) and Xzephren Donner (113 pounds) brought home first-place finishes along with teammates Teagen Pfeifer (165 pounds) and Brayden Suchy (175 p[pounds).

At 190 pounds, Kolten Jones of Russell was second, and Trey Zorn finished third at 144 pounds.

The Panthers Hunter Sission was the top finisher at 138 pounds. Seth Keeten won 144 pounds, and Blake Buresh finished first at 157 pounds.

Their teammates Kaden Sission (132 pounds) and Colen Keeten (150 pounds) finished second. Jaden Boyle was third at 285 pounds, and Kayden Hudson was fourth at 175 pounds.

The Smith Center Redmen had three second-place finishers: Landon Erickson (120 pounds), Dominick Kattenberg (215) and Kharson Montgomery (285).

Parker Hutchinson was third at 157 pounds, and Isaac Stansbury fourth at 113 pounds.

Trego qualified four wrestlers for the state tournament and finished 11th.

Cass Smith (165) and Kaiden Bliss (190 pounds) finished third, and Ashton Wynn (138) and Aaron Samson (150 pounds) each finished fourth.

Plainville finished 12th and had two individual state qualifiers.

Colby Nuss (132 pounds), and Rylan Hamel (215 pounds) both finished fourth.

Stockton’s Emerson Lowry was a second-place finisher and the lone qualifier for the Tigers.

Tate Blackwill of Quinter also finished second at 113 pounds to represent the Bulldogs at state.

At 126 pounds, Asher Haag of Ellis placed second.
