James K. “Jim” DeWald, 86, died June 6, 2022, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born January 4, 1936, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Jacob R. and Gertrude (Schwein) DeWald. Jim was a graduate of Hoisington High School.
A lifetime Barton County resident, Jim was a farmer and had worked in the oil field for Lane Wells and also with his brother Vernon laying carpet and tile. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia and was a former volunteer firefighter with the Galatia Fire Department. He also ran the road grader in the township and was caretaker of the Fairview Cemetery for many years.
On May 9, 1966, he married Georgetta Jean Hester. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2020.
He is survived by two daughters; Ann Janzen and husband Stan of Buhler, and Stephanie Hermes and husband Chris of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Vernon DeWald and sister, Doris Boxberger.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Galatia.
