Rebecca E. “Becky” Thetford, 78, died January 23, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas. She was born July 24, 1944, in Noble, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert O. “Bob” Bennet, Sr. and Isabelle (Ward) Bennett. Becky graduated from Moline High School, Moline, Kansas, and then attended Pittsburg State College.
On February 7, 1965, she married James Orville Thetford in Moline, Kansas. To them was born a son, Jeffery.
Becky worked as a secretary for many years at Jomax Construction of Great Bend. From her experience gained working in the pipeline business, she became active in the Desk and Derrick Club, where she was a member for 35 years, serving as a past president. An avid bowler and member of Team Coors, their team went on to win many a regional and state title. Becky also enjoyed hunting, something she learned as a child from her grandfather. She particularly liked deer and pheasant hunting and was teased about being “Annie Oakley” with her exceptional shot.
She is survived by her son; Jeffery J. Thetford and wife Shelley of Great Bend; grandson, Joshua Tetrick and wife Brittany of Valley Center; two great grandsons, Zane and Zachary Tetrick; and a sister, Sherri Knight of Bellevue, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Thetford, her parents, Bob and Isabelle Bennett, and a brother, Robert O. Bennett, Jr.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Moline Cemetery, Moline, Kansas. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.
