Peggy D. (Long) Carman passed away peacefully Monday, May 20, 2024, at her home in Hoxie. Peggy was born in Dresden, Kansas, to Thomas Bryan (Red) Long and Leta P. (Jones) Long. She grew up in Dresden and later Oberlin, Kansas, the third of ten children, graduating from Decatur Community High School with the Class of 1953.
On February 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to Willis B. Carman in Oberlin. Six children were born to this union. They made their home in Oberlin until they moved to Hoxie when they took over the Carman family farm in 1971.
Peggy was a wonderful cook, specializing in fried chicken, homemade noodles, and chocolate chip cookies. She was an excellent seamstress, quilter, and caregiver. She is survived by her daughters, Diana (Larry) Alstrom of Overland Park; Deb (Tom) Campbell of Hoxie; Cindy (Charlie) Ostmeyer of Milford; Anne (Richard) Heskett, Manhattan; and Jodee Carman (Steve Ferland), Ellis; a brother Greg Long, Scott City; sisters Judy (Evan) Goltl, Hill City, and Joy Richardson, Belgrade, Montana.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Clay Alstrom (Kristina); Angie (Bryan) Long, Jamie (Nick) Bolton; Carrie (Steve) Meier; Holly (Greg) Horning, Josh Campbell (Alicia); Lindsay (Adam) Koster; Adam (Anne Marie) Ostmeyer; Emily (Brady) Nelson; Troy (Kori) Ostmeyer; Ashley (Andy) Bowers; Chelsea Heskett; Riley (Abby) Heskett; Mackenzie (Ryan) Blecha; Cash Stillman; and 26 great grandchildren: Evann, Max, Luke, Kendall, Carsyn, Cooper, Beau, Henley Jo, Morgan, Taryn, Avery, Caleb, Jace, Townes, Maggie, Haley, Eli, Grace, Hazel, Rowdy, Margo, Madelyn, Isaac, Sophie, Gentry and Charlie Jo. She is also survived by brother-in-law Garry Beeson and former son-in-law Karl Stillman and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; son, Phyll Carman; brothers Gale, G.B., Gene and Gary Long and sisters, Patty Moore and Vicky Beeson.
Peggy was a constant source of support for her family. The pride she had for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unsurpassed. Her joy and undying love for her family will be in our hearts forever. We love you, Mom!
A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, May 31, 2024, 1:30 P.M. at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas. The funeral home will open at Noon with Family present to greet friends until service time. A private family burial will immediately follow the service in the Oberlin City Cemetery.
