Agnes Fae (Kathka) Urban, 84, of Valley Center, KS passed away on June 13, 2023, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.

Agnes was born in Oberlin, KS to Gustave and Pearl Kathka on September 9, 1938. She went to school at Decatur County High School in Oberlin.

She left school to marry John Urban on June 25, 1956, and moved to a farm north of Colby, KS, where she enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, from raising baby calves who had lost their mothers, to baby chickens, and their six children, Daniel, Christine, Rocky, Marvin and Marlene and Linda.

After the children were grown, she went to work at the Thomas County Hospital in the nursery taking care of newborns, followed by employment with Head Start helping little children prepare for school teaching them to read and write. Agnes concluded her employment by retiring from Walmart.

One of her greatest achievements was going back to school and getting her high school diploma. Upon her retirement and the passing of her husband, she moved to Valley Center to be closer to her grandchildren.

She enjoyed reading mystery novels, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter-in-law Maggie Taylor (Daniel Urban) and their son Vance Pentico; son-in-law Donald Belknap; her parents, and various brothers, sister, and brothers/sisters-in-law.

Agnes is survived by her children, Daniel Urban, Colby, KS, Christine Belknap, Valley Center, KS, Rocky (Cheryl Barnett) Urban, Colby, KS, Marvin (Martina) Urban, Colby, KS, Marlene (Len) Ritnour, Roca, NE, and Linda (Doug) Adwell, Valley Center, KS; grandchildren Darren, Logan (fiance Taylor) and Denae Adwell, of Valley Center, KS, Andrew (Rose) Urban, Fort Collins, CO, Christall Ritnour, Lincoln, NE, Spencer and Shelbie Ritnour, Roca, NE, Tresta (Dalton) Arntt, Goodland, KS and Rachel Urban, Denver, CO; great-grandchildren Callie, Carson, Wyatt and Emmett Urban, Fort Collins, CO.

Agnes was laid to rest beside her husband at Beulah Cemetery on June 19, 2023. Casket bearers and honorary pallbearers were Andrew Urban, Rose Urban, Christall Ritnour, Spencer Ritnour, Shelbie Ritnour, Darren Adwell, Logan Adwell, Denae Adwell, Tresta Arntt, Dalton Arntt, Rachel Urban, Len Ritnour and Doug Adwell.
