David Allen Sprecker, 90, passed away on June 29, 2024 in San Marcos, TX. David was born on May 22, 1934 in Goodland, Kansas. His parents were Albert and Carol Sprecker. He had one brother, Richard, and one sister, Caroline Scofield, Goodland, Kansas.
David’s family moved to the family farm south of Ruleton and Kanorado when David was five years old. He attended grades one through eight in Kanorado and in Ruleton. He graduated from Goodland High School in May 1953. He was active with his friends in Youth for Christ during his high school years.
David served in the Air Force from July 1954 to July 1957. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi and Otis Air Force Base, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
He was interested and involved with farming and flying all his life. His lifelong hobbies have been building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, ultra-plane building and flying and motorcycling. He and his father Albert were flying farmers during 1940’s and early 1950’s. David and his three sons were very close and enjoyed similar interests throughout his life.
David married Joyce Calkins from Salina, Kansas on April 6, 1958. They were involved with the family farm until retirement in March 1995, moving to 610 Arcade Goodland, Kansas. In April 2023 he moved to San Marcos, Texas.
David was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, brother and infant daughter.
Surviving family include his three sons David Jr (Katherine), Americus, Kansas, Richard (Lori), San Marcos, TX, James (Debbie) Graniteville, SC, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM MT at the Calvary Gospel Church in Goodland with Pastor Randy Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
