Joel Alexis Hernandez, 19, passed away on July 4, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born in Great Bend, to Alberto Hernandez and Veronica Leyva.
Having lived in Great Bend and later Wichita, Joel spent his time watching TV, playing music and video games, and spending time with family.
Survivors include his mother of the home; his father; two brothers, Alberto (significant other, Aylin) Hernandez of Great Bend and Alan Hernandez of Wichita; aunts, Esna (Victor) Banuelos of Odessa, Texas and Anna Maria Leyva of Mexico; uncles, Oscar (Diana) Leyva and Jesus (Maribel) Leyva, all of Great Bend; and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by a sister, Arely Hernandez; and maternal grandparents, Oscar and Anna Maria Leyva.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Omero Cadenas presiding.
Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North. Memorials have been designated to the Joel Hernandez Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
