Phyllis (Snyder) Egbert, 100, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Canyon Lake, Texas. She was born on August 8,
1922, at Mason City, Iowa the daughter of Carl Ignatius & Laura
Elizabeth (Lotze) Snyder. She married D. Gilbert Egbert on May 22, 1945, at Mason City. He died on March 29, 2016.
Her fondest childhood memories include the summers at the cottage,
boating and sailing at Clear Lake, Iowa. She grew up in the “Pink House”
in Mason City and cherished her school years at Holy Family School.
Phyllis graduated Mason City High School, attended Clarke College in
Dubuque and graduated the University of Colorado in Boulder, a member of
the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and majoring in English. It was there
that a fellow student caught her eye and following graduation and his
military service, Phyllis and Gilbert Egbert settled in Dighton in 1947
to raise their family.
She had treasured memories of the many family weekends at Cedar Bluff
and the many station wagon road trips. She enjoyed Bridge Club, PEO and
the frequent social gatherings. She spent many hours volunteering at the
kid’s schools and St Theresa Catholic Church. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Gilbert after almost 71 years of marriage. Also
preceding her in death were son, Barry Egbert; parents and brother, Ned
I. Snyder.
Phyllis and Gilbert were parents to Barry Egbert (deceased), Nancy
Egbert of Boulder, Tracey (Larry) Brundrett of Canyon Lake, Douglas
(Mary) Egbert of Jacksonville, IL. and Dave Egbert of Tulsa; and
grandparents to TJ Tobin and daughter Rilie, Ryan Brundrett (Naomi) and
children, Amira, Kaylan and Arlo, Allison (Ben) Elder and sons Royal and
Bishop and Taylor (Laura) Egbert. Her children will say she was their
biggest fan and advocate. Her motherly advice is well remembered and
often repeated. We thank her for our legacy and her love.
Graveside Service will be at 10:30 on Tuesday, February 7th, at Dighton
Memorial Cemetery with Rev Don Bedore officiating. Mom requested no
flowers or memorials, just good thoughts and prayers. Donations to St
Theresa Catholic Church or the Lane County Historical Society in Mom’s
memory are welcome.
