Bobby Gene Stanton

Maj. Bobby Gene Stanton passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. He was born, an only child, on April 24, 1935 in Johnston City, IL to Hesentin (Landtrip) Stanton and Archie Stanton. He spent his childhood in the Chicago area.

He joined the military in 1955 and went on to become a Major in the United States Marines. He traveled the world, flew aircraft for the Marines, and served in the Vietnam war. He was part a flight team called the Gray Angels and his nickname was “Pinky."

While he was stationed at El Toro, he met the love of his life—Ann (Yeager) Stanton. They courted and lived in Laguna Beach, CA. They were married on August 9, 1964 in Larned, KS at the First Presbyterian Church. Bob retired from the military in September of 1975 after which they settled in Larned, KS to raise their family and live out their lives. He worked at the First National Bank in Larned as the Vice President until his retirement. He also served as the President of banks in Heston and Lewis, KS.

Bob enjoyed piloting planes, woodworking, listening to jazz music, spending time with his grandchildren, and was known for giving the best hugs. He could often be seen mowing his lawn on the riding lawn mower and his favorite pastime was traveling and spending time with his family in Laguna Beach, CA.

 Bob is survived by his children—Richard Stanton, Kim Stanton, and Cathy Haymaker; grandchildren—Jessica Haymaker-Parsons and Jennifer Haymaker; great-grandchild—Roslyn Haymaker-Parsons; brother-in-law—Richard Yeager; and nieces and nephews—Jake Yeager, Luke Yeager, and Julie Cummings. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Stanton, his mother, Hesentin (Landtrip) Stanton, and his father, Archie Stanton.

Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 5th, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jack Singer presiding.  Visitation will be 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary with family present from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Inurnment with military honors will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.
