James John Clarke, Jr., 72, died peacefully on May 22, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born June 26, 1951, in Taylorville, Illinois, the son of James John Sr. and Lucille (Baughman) Clarke. On July 8, 1972, he married Brenda Turner, in Springfield, Illinois.
James served as an electrical technician with the United States Air Force from 1971 until his retirement in 1991. At the time of his retirement, he ranked as a Master Sargeant. He continued doing private security when called upon.
James was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed camping and spending time with family, especially cherishing time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda, of 51 years, three sons, Jim Clarke, Denver, CO; John Clarke and Bonnie, Colorado Springs, CO; Joseph Clarke (Rhonda), Great Bend, KS; brothers, John Alberts and Pro Alberts, sister; Stella Alvey; eight grandchildren; Andrew Clarke, Sharon Washington (Malik), Michelle Clarke, John P. Clarke, Jr., Matthew Clarke, Joey Clarke, Tony Clarke, and Gracie Clarke. Great granddaughter; Stella Clarke. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday June 5, 2024, at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Wakeeney, Wakeeney, KS, with Rev. Randy Gibbs presiding. Visitation will be from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, at Bryant Funeral Home.
