Mary Lee (Clouston) DeShazo, 86, passed away on August 21st, 2022, at Sunny Vista Living Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on September 30th, 1935, in Ness County, Kansas to Jessee and Helen (Doty) Clouston. Mary Lee married Jerry Scott, and to this union Jerry Robert “J.R.”, Oklahoma, and Cindy Lee (Mike) Ashcraft, of Hays, Kansas were born. She married Leroy Hefel in 1961, and to this union Barbara Helen Dungan, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Beverly Ann (David) Dunne of Alpine, Utah were born. She married Joe DeShazo in 1968 and to this union Jodie Jean (Michael) Johnston of Overland Park, Kansaswas born.
She enjoyed school in Ness City, Kansas, and was a cheerleader in high school. She also played the violin, and later in life would sometimes play “Auld Lang Syne” for us on New Year’s Eve, on the front porch when she lived in Midwest City, Okla. Mary Lee traveled and lived in many states in the U.S. while an Air Force wife. She made many new friends during this time. She and Joe lived in Oklahoma after marrying, and then settled in Ness City, Kansas. Joe passed away in 1997 in Ness City, Kansas. She worked and volunteered while in Ness City while they raised the three youngest daughters. She later moved to Dighton, Kansas, and enjoyed the activities and friends she made at the Citizens Center (The Joy Center) there. She later moved to Hays, Kansas, near her daughter Cindy and her family. She then moved to Colorado Springs with her daughter Barb and Barb’s daughter Shannon. She enjoyed reading, gardening, camping at the lake, cooking, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Ronnie, Tina, Skyler, Cassidy, Shannon, Corey, Lindsey, Ashley, Dylan, Sydney, Abbey, and Katey, and all her great grandkids. She also enjoyed the time she had with her stepchildren and step-grandkids.
She is survived by the above-mentioned family, her sister, Jeanne (Cliff) MacDonald, and brother, Robert “Bob” (Marye) Clouston, and many other loved family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, Sister Ann (Gayle)Garrelts, Brother, Donald (B.J.) Clouston, and stepdaughter Joann Steffen.
There will be no visitation, and cremation will take place per Mary Lee’s request.Graveside services will be Sept. 30, 2022.
