Robert Paul Scott

Goodland, KS resident Robert Paul Scott passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.

Paul was born March 11, 1932, on the adobe flats near Boyero, Colorado,  to Margaret (Cullen) and Walter Elmore Scott.  He was the third of eight children born to the couple. 

Paul started school in Kit Carson and attended 2nd and 3rd grade in Cheyenne Wells until the family moved to Burlington at the beginning of 4th grade.  Paul started work for Yersins at the grocery store when he was 10 and worked after school and half a day Saturdays.  He grew up riding horses around Burlington with his younger brother.

Paul graduated from Burlington High School with the class of 51 and following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, who he says gave him his first bus ride, first train ride and first boat ride to Korea. 

He served in Korea from 1953 where he gave a class on rifles which earned him a transfer to Japan to learn how to combat load ships.  After which he was stationed on the front lines until his tour was over in 1955.

Paul went to work in Liberal, Kansas, and met and married Iva Lorraine.  While in Liberal, their daughter was born in 1958 and he adopted Iva’s 2 children after which they went to work for Conarty Brothers south of Kanorado in 1962 where their son was born.

 In 1978, Paul became a brand inspector for the State of Colorado until his retirement after 22 years.  He is survived by his daughter, Janice of Fort Morgan, CO, his son, Ron (Margaret) of Castle Rock, CO, daughter Linda (Jay) of Goodland and son Danny (Vicki) of Maricopa, AZ , one brother, Bill (Jeanne) of Gold, AZ  many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers Lawrence and Jeff, and four sisters Rita Ann, Leta Mae, Patty Jo and Iona.
