Janice Marie Grauer, 84, of Poughkeepsie, New York, died Sunday, February 5, 2023, at home. Janice was born July 24, 1938, in Hays, Kansas, and married Charles E. Grauer on July 12, 1969, in Wilson, Kansas, where they lived until 2004 when they both retired in Mead, Colorado. In 2017, they moved to Poughkeepsie, NY.
Having graduated from Sacred Heart College in Wichita, Kansas, in 1960, she was a devoted elementary school teacher. She loved teaching and was an accomplished quilter and embroiderer. She spent her life in servitude to the church and locally attended Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; three sons, James Grauer of California, John Paul Grauer and wife Jennifer of Topeka, KS, Carl Grauer and husband Mario Roman of Poughkeepsie, NY; three siblings, Nancy Sullivan, Linda Andrade, and Keith Baugher; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents B. Howard and Bernice Baugher; sister Carol Gabel; and son Michael Steven Grauer.
The memorial service will be Friday, February 10, at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 20 Carroll Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Memorials may be made in Janice’s name to Christ Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc.
