Phillipsburg resident, Edgar R. Wintersteen, passed away on September 21, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 79.  

Ed was born in Phillips County, Kansas, to his parents Clarence and Hulda (Eggers) Wintersteen.

Ed lived his life as a free spirit. He joined the Navy in 1963 and served until 1967. His love of motorcycles led him on many road trips.

He turned his passion for traveling into a lifelong career of truck driving and later became the owner of his very own trucking company, “Wintersteen Trucking Company.”

He met the love of his life, Chris Wintersteen, in 1983. They were united in marriage on July 30, 1993, in Gordon, Nebraska, and they worked and lived side by side until their retirement in 2019. His many other companions during his life over the road were his dachshunds: Max, Aaron, Texas, Buster, and Chloe.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 40 years Chris Wintersteen of Phillipsburg, Kansas, daughter Christine Kaatz and husband Dustin of Dunnedin, Florida, and grandsons Adler and Lowen Kaatz of Dunnedin, Florida.

A visitation will be held Wednesday September 27, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Following the visitation, burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with military honors conducted by the United Sates Navy.

Friends may sign the book from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Research.
