Garden City- Brooke Anne Hamlin-Lopez, 45, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Garden City after a two year battle with Uveal Melanoma. She was born on December 2, 1978 at Garden City the daughter of Kent & Mary (Walls) Hamlin and was a lifetime resident of Garden City.

Brooke graduated from Garden City High School in 1997 and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Fort Hays State University. She worked for a time at the Finney County Appraisal office and with Finney County Path before becoming a Family Support Specialist for Catholic Charities. She loved her job helping refugees find housing and life necessities. She has been with the housing program at Catholic Charities since it started and she is a big part of where it’s at today. She also facilitated MRT for Seeds Of Hope where she was a board member.

With her job she was active with the Homeless Coalition and the Disaster Response and Emergency Assistance Charities. Brooke was a board member for Santa Fe Trail Boy Scouts. She was a loving and devoted Mother who loved to travel and enjoy new experiences, especially with her son. Her last act of kindness was being involved in 3 trials for the Uveal Melanoma research which involved numerous trips to Philadelphia with the hope this would help other cancer patients.

She is survived by her Son- Marcus Lopez of Garden City, Parents- Kent & Mary Hamlin of Garden City, Brother- Tony Hamlin of Ulysses, Grandfather- Howard Hamlin of Garden City, Grandmother- Betty Walls of Ulysses, Uncles- Jeff Hamlin and Tim Hamlin of Garden City, Aunts- Candace Hamlin (Jerry) of Hutchinson, Barbara & Jeff Clark of Hutchinson and Marta & Clete Jackson of Sahuarita, Arizona and numerous cousins.She was preceded in death by her Grandmother- Marlene Hamlin, Grandfather- Charles Walls Uncle- Herschel Walls and Aunts- Janice Hamlin and Dee Hamlin.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM Monday at First United Methodist Church with Rev Jim Akins officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Leave A Legacy Foundation or Catholic Charities in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
