Marvin Kenneth Thomas, age 92, of Hays, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, in Hays.
He was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Steinauer, Neb., to Andrew and Anna (Schmit) Thomas. On June 13, 1949, he married Donna Vance. She preceded him in death in April of 1994.
He married Arleta “Joan” Guard on Oct. 5, 1995. She preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 2019.
Marvin had owned businesses of Oldham Sales, an automotive retail store, and Northwest Distributors, an automotive wholesale supplier in Hays. Marvin was an avid sports fan and participant. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, traveling softball tournaments, including all-star tournaments that he enjoyed playing in.
He was a long-time member of the Fort Hays Golf Course as well as Smoky Hill Country Club where he was the Senior Club Champion numerous times.
Marvin is survived by a son, Duane Thomas of Hays; daughters, Connie Schmidt of Lincoln, Neb., and Michelle Thomas-Hay and husband Chris of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, Jim Thomas of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Craig Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt, Drew Thomas, Dena Thomas-Aouassou, Taylor Thomas, Madison Exstrom and Katie Hay as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Valeria Dezort, Gaylord Thomas and LaVern Thomas.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First Call for Help Ellis County, Good Sam In-Home Health or Breathe Coffee House, both of Hays.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall St., Hays. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Inurnment will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery.
