Lakin- Phyllis Ann Sullivan, 94, died on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at High Plains retirement Village in Lakin. She was born on April 4, 1930 in Hope, to Max Henry August & Amanda Pauline (Knuth) Miltz. On September 19, 1950 she married Charles A. “Chuck” Sullivan in Herrington.
A Lakin resident since 1970, Phyl was a stay at home Mom when they resided in Hiawatha and David City, Nebraska. She began working as a Clerk and Bookkeeper at Marsh Grocery Store in Tilden, Nebraska, and as a Bookkeeper at the Kearny County Bank from 1970 until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society in Lakin. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing Bridge and Pitch, teaching generations on how to play these two card games. She loved eating meals at the Kearny County Senior Center, Along with many trips to watch her beloved K.C. Royals and gambling at casinos. She volunteered in various organizations in Lakin.
The last several years of her life were spent in her new apartment at the Lakin High Plains Assisted Living Facility. She thoroughly enjoyed her new and old friends alike. If you couldn’t get a hold of her, she could be found putting a puzzle together, playing marbles with Willetta, or playing BINGO and winning more than 1 prize each time. When she moved in, her family increased seven-fold, with the other residents, and the people who assisted her in the golden years of her life; they weren’t nurses, CNA’s, CMA’s, kitchen, laundry, cleaning, janitorial staff, they became her extended family.
Survivors include three sons, Pat (Jane), Steve, P.J. (Janey) Sullivan of Lakin, Two daughters, Loretta (Nick) Nykodym of Norfolk, Nebraska and Theresa (Bruce) Meyer of Palmer, Kansas, 13 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Sister-In-Law Kathleen Weishaar. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Kathi, 3 sisters and brothers-in-law- Eddlene & Harold Sigle, Maxine & Jack Anderson and Erma Jean & Bob Fry.
Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Friday, April 19th and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 20th both at St Anthony Catholic Church with Rev Peter Tran as Celebrant. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund or High Plains Retirement Village Assisted Living in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
