Carlynn Neil Foos was born July 8, 1934, on the farm near Bazine, Kansas and passed away February 20, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born to Elmer and Lydia (Fech) Foos. He attended grades 1 – 8 at Belles Letters country school and graduated from Bazine High School in 1952.
He worked multiple jobs from graduation until 1957 when he was drafted on April 1, 1957, into the United States Army. In January 1958, he completed Airborne School at Fort Campbell Kentucky and earned his parachutist badge. He was honorably discharged January 8, 1959, and was part of the 1st Airborne Battle Group 506th Infantry Company E.
He later became a small aircraft pilot and completed his solo flight November 22, 1966. He continued to fly until 1984 when he sold his airplane.
He was a terracing contractor, farmer, and cattleman. He began his life- long career of working to conserve the soil and stopping soil erosion in 1959 with his brother, Dennis, when they started their terracing company. Carlynn then started CLM Construction in 1968 which he continued to own and operate for the next 50 years.
He married Letty Dietz (Anspaugh) on September 4, 1967. He spent many hours at the Ness City Bowling Alley helping Letty with mechanical duties and other issues that arose until it was sold in 1985. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2005.
Survivors include one daughter, Mechelle (Jeff Weishaar) Nortonville, KS; stepdaughter, Toni (Ron) Ochs, Grand Island, NE; step grandson, Benjamin Ochs, Lincoln, NE and his companion Carol Klitzke. Other survivors include sisters, Nancy Alsop, Kathryn Foos, and brother, Lowell Foos.
Preceding him in death were his wife Letty, his parents, brother Dennis Foos, and sisters Donavee Shaw and Frances Kimple.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City, KS with interment to follow at the Ness City Cemetery. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday, February 23, from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
