John W. Jacobs, 92, of Colby passed away Jan. 3, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby. He was born July 28, 1931, to Jesse and Germaine (Richard) Jacobs on their family farm in Sherman County, KS.
John attended school at Brownville and later graduated from Colby High School.
On March 28, 1956, John married Rosalie Shull in New Mexico. They lived and farmed north of Winona and were blessed with six children, Lynn, Teresa, Denise, Suzanne, Jesse and Matthew.
John devoted his life to farming and ranching in the Winona and Brewster areas. He will be remembered for his resilience, work ethic and commitment to agriculture. He enjoyed spending time with his family and some of his favorite activities with them included rockhounding and polishing rocks. His pets also held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Madeleine Gravener, Jessie Owens-Enfield and Fern Colton, brothers-in-law, Charles Gravener, Warren Owens, Charles Colton and Bud Enfield, and great-grandsons, Taylor Cross and Hudson Kouba.He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosalie, of Colby; son, Lynn (Pat) Jacobs of Junction City; daughter, Teresa (Van) Rogge of Kingfisher, OK; daughter, Denise Yount of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Suzanne (Dale) Herschberger of Colby; son, Jesse (Bethany) Jacobs of Osborne; and son, Matthew (Kristal) Jacobs of Smithville, MO; grandchildren, John Rogge, Eric Rogge, Chris Jacobs, Jamie Roath, Dustin Herschberger, Crystal Luedke, Amanda Shaffer, Holly Cross, Melissa Cross, Sarah Kouba, Chance Jacobs and Audrey Jacobs; 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2024, at Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
