Martin Robert Becker, 69, of Milberger, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Marty was born on January 29, 1956, in Russell, Kansas.  He was the son of LaVern H. and Elaine L. (Karst) Becker.  He grew up in the Milberger area, attended Lincoln Rural Elementary School and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1974.  He then attended Ft. Hays State University.

Marty met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Susan R. Schmidt on November 25, 1978, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger.  This union was blessed with two children; Ryan and Megan.  They made their home in rural Russell.

Marty was a devoted Farmer and Stockman.  He hauled livestock for many years.  He was an active member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served as Chairman of the UELC Church Council for many years.  He served on the Russell County 4-H Fair Board, the Board of Directors of the Great Bend Coop from 2011 to 2019, and Russell County Farm Bureau.  His love of farming was both a career and a hobby. He was an avid K-State football and KC Chiefs fan. His favorite holiday was 4th of July and he built a tradition of celebrating it with family and friends.  He enjoyed playing cards & games, and fishing with his family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s lives and activities. Marty was a great Husband, Father, Papa and Friend.

Marty’s surviving family includes his wife of 46 years, Susan of the home; son, Ryan Martin Becker (Micah) of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Megan Susanne Becker of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Riley Marie Becker, Reagan Grace Becker, Elijah Martin Becker and Silas Emmanuel Becker; mother-in- law, Alice Schmidt of Russell, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Phillip Schmidt (Vickie) of Seiling, Oklahoma and Gregory Schmidt of Prairie Village, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Shelley Dougherty of Eudora, Kansas and Margie Schmidt of Russell, Kansas.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Funk; father-in-law, Richard Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Rick Dougherty, and Wayne Funk; sister-in-law, Annette Gerstner; and niece, Kapryce Schmidt.

Celebration of Marty’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 10, 2025, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger.  Burial will follow at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Milberger.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Memorials have been established with the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund and the Russell County 4-H Development Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, which is in charge of these arrangements.
