David Leikam, age 70, of Hays, Kansas died Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at The Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. David was born December 12, 1951, to Edgar Leikam and Clara (Knoll) Leikam in Hays, Kansas. He graduated from St. Joseph Military in 1969. He then served as a medic in the United States Army in Vietnam from March of 1970 to September of 1971. He married Connie Malsom May 12, 1973, in Hays.
David was the Captain of the Hays Fire Department for 31 years. He was an avid fisher and hunter, enjoyed traveling, his Harley Davidson, and watching the Denver Broncos. Mostly he loved spending time with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of the home, three daughters Jennifer (Deon) Werth, Wellington, Co; Cindy Leikam (Scott Olivo) Ft. Collins, CO, Sharon (Aaron) Leuenberger, Hays, KS; one brother, Gary (Mary) Leikam, Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Lauren, Devin, Andon, Kendall, and Levi, five nieces, Emily, Elizabeth, Krista, Kaylynn, Karianne, and one nephew, Nolan, brother in law Virgil Weigel and sister in law Jeanette Weigel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, August 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, 2901 East 13th Street, Hays, Kansas 67601, with Father Damion Richards officiating. David's family will receive guests from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Inurnment will follow the services in the State of Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney. Memorial visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a parish vigil service at 7:00 PM at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
