Jolene “Jo” Marie Augustine (Giebler), 72, of WaKeeney, Kansas, a doting mother and grandmother, passed away on March 11, 2023, after a brief illness at Trego-Lemke Memorial Hospital.

She was born to the late Henrietta and Kilian Giebler on August 20, 1950, in Hays, Kansas.  She graduated from Hays High School. Later in life she went on to study at Fort Hays State University. She met her husband, David Augustine, while working at Travanol. They married on May 26, 1972, and together, they had their son, Jason.

She was a homemaker, a bookkeeper, a sitter, a saleswoman, and a factory worker. Many knew her as a good friend. She loved reading, gardening, drawing, baking, cooking, and socializing.  She would be on the phone with loved ones for hours, chatting.  She was the favorite aunt of many nieces and nephews and made sure everyone was well-fed.

Due to her health issues, she moved to Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital-Long Term Care, where she was lovingly cared for . Some of her favorite things at long term care over the almost three years that she was there was being able to spend time with her husband, who would greet her at around seven in the morning before he went to work at the hospital, having dinner and supper almost every night with him at the hospital, sharing Dairy Queen sundaes brought in by him on Sunday afternoons and watching the Kansas City Chiefs games with him.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Jolene were her late mother and father, Henrietta (Linenberger) and Kilian Giebler.  Loved ones that will miss Jolene until they meet again are her husband, David Augustine; son Jason (Shannon) Augustine of Lake Ridge, Virginia; grandchildren, Jacob and Carina Augustine of Lake Ridge, Virginia; her brother Ivan (Arlene) Giebler; her sister Annette (Kirk) Voss, all of Hays, Kansas; three sisters’ and four brothers’ in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, KS on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 10:00AM. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00AM to 10:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital for Long Term Care.
