Roy L. Case, 86, Hays, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

Roy was born June 17, 1937, in Ponca City, Okla., the son of Robert L. and Sylvia (Moon) Case.

He attended rural Kay County, Oklahoma, schools, graduating from Kaw City High School, Kaw City, Okla. He then furthered his education at Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa, Okla., and Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla., graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology.

He was a resident of Hays for 20 years, moving from Garden City. While attending college, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad switching cars. He worked for Baroid Well Logging Service traveling to many locations in the United States; Cities Service, Medicine Lodge and Rawlins, Wyo. and Champlin Pet Company, Garden City and Hays before his retirement.

He was a member of the NRA.  

On Jan. 19, 1963, he married Judith K. Kober at Medicine Lodge.  

Survivors include his wife, Judith Case, Hays; two children, Tonya Norton (Doug), Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nicholas Case (Roxann), Carlsbad, N. M., three grandchildren, Joshua, Camden, and Shea Case; three nieces, Janie McGuire (Jim), Rosemary Harader (Danny), and Ruthie Hazaleus; and many great nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Roberta Hazaleus, and Betty Case.

Roy had a deep and devoted love for his family. He doted on his children, especially his three grandchildren, Joshua, Camden, and Shea. Roy was an avid outdoorsman and loved raising cattle in Medicine Lodge, gardening, and spending time at the farm. He was passionate about rockhounding, hunting, and fishing. He especially enjoyed exploring new places, antiquing, hunting fossils and spending time in their vacation home in Salida, Colo.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, from 1 to 1:50 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, with Pastor Scott Tempero officiating.  The interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the National Wild Turkey Federation.
