Linda Louise (Linenberger) Stary

Linda Louise (Linenberger) Stary, age 78, of Garden City, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.

     She was born July 23,1946 in LaCrosse, Kansas to Adolph Joseph and Bertha Marie (Schmidt) Linenberger. 

     She grew up in Hays, Kansas, but the family moved to Denver, Colorado and that is where she graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1964.  After her marriage to Robert Gottschalk she moved back to Hays, for 30 more years, working for Hadley (that later became Hays Medical Center) for 20 yrs.  It was in Hays that she raised her two sons, Roger Lee Gottschalk and Jeffrey Scott Gottschalk.

     On Dec. 31, 1993, she married Leonard Stary and moved to Garden City in 1996 where she continued her education and became a Special Education Paraprofessional for 15 yrs. at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate School.

     Linda was an active member of St. Mary's Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Garden City serving as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Daughters of Isabella.  She was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Hays.  She also volunteered for different organizations and businesses in Garden City through the Finney County RSVP program.  She enjoyed volunteer work, playing cards at the Senior Center, traveling, and especially spending time with her family.

     She is survived by her husband, Leonard Stary, of the home; her sons, Roger Gottschalk and wife, Pam, Northglenn, CO; Jeffrey Gottschalk and wife, Tammy, Holcomb, KS; her stepdaughter, Andrea Spridgen and husband, Mike, Thornton, CO;

her grandchildren, Lauren Gerard and husband, Eric; Breanna Gottschalk; Dalton Gottschalk and wife, Ryli; Allyson Gottschalk; Brier Raquet and husband, Luke; her great granddaughter, Natalie Gerard; her sisters, Sandra Kreutzer, Hays, KS; Paula Ruth and husband, Bill, Hays, KS; Donna Duran and husband, Bob, Sheridan, CO; and her ten nieces and nephews.

     Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Bertha Linenberger; her sister, Kathy Brendel and her husband, Gary; her brother-in-law, Leroy Kreutzer, and her stepfather, Alfred Stary.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas with Concelebrants, Father Brian McCaffrey and Father Jacob Schneider.  An inurnment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery Hays, Kansas.

     A visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, at the church with a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 9:30 A.M.

     The family suggests a memorial made payable to: St. Mary Queen of all Saints Catholic Church in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas  67601.
