Charmaine L. Morris, 85, Hays, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Logan Manor in Logan.
She was born May 31, 1937, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Robert and Rose (Hose) Kamai. Charmaine grew up in Hawaii and it was there that she met Vernon J. “Vern” Morris Sr., a U.S. Marine stationed in Hawaii. Charmaine and Vern were united in marriage on July 13, 1957, in Honolulu, and they moved to Hays, Kansas, in 1958. They were married nearly 65 years before he preceded her in death on March 17, 2022.
Charmaine worked at Travenol and for International Mailing. She was a devout Catholic, a loving homemaker, and her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She loved flowers and flower gardening, sharing bulbs and plants with family and friends, and creating beautiful arrangements with flowers grown in her garden. Charmaine enjoyed animals, shopping, traveling, and listening to country music. Most of all, she adored her family.
Survivors include her two sons, Vernie Morris and wife Sue of Logan and Verlon Morris of Spring Hill, three daughters, Virgie Knoedler and husband Steven of Hays, Veronica Rogers and Vermay DeRossi, both of Ottawa, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern, one sister, Grebel Pellum, and an infant son, Verdale.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Deacon Steve Urban officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time.
