Gary Lee McDonald, 82, passed away August 2, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kan. He was born May 9, 1941, to Maurice and Hazel (Herter) McDonald, in Great Bend.

He married Judy Klapp March 7, 1973, in Ellinwood. She died June 19, 2019.

A lifetime area resident, Gary was the electrical production foreman for the city of Ellinwood for 29 years until his retirement in 2005.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ellinwood and a former member of United Church of Christ in Ellinwood. Gary enjoyed playing the guitar, watching westerns and cooking shows, always trying out the skills and dishes he learned. He loved to collect trains, and also enjoyed NRHA and NASCAR.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Ensminger Grubb and husband James of Ellinwood, and Christina Rowell and husband Jim of Great Bend; and three grandchildren, Gary Grubb, Judy Grubb and Emily Rowell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judy; and an infant sister, Marie McDonald.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood, Kan., with Pastor Ken Gray presiding.

Memorials have been designated to the Gary McDonald Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
