Melba Domoney, 96, passed away December 15, 2022.
She was born in Oakley, Kansas, on May 31, 1926, the daughter of John and Mary (Dufton) Whiting. Melba graduated from Downs High School and the University of Kansas. She married John S. Domoney on June 13, 1948. They were blessed to become the proud parents of three sons: Duff, Darcy, and Dewey. John & Melba were co-owners of the family business, Domoney’s Furniture and Funeral Home for many years. Melba worked at the State Bank of Downs and then devoted her time to being a full time wife and mother. John and Melba celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2001. They took over 30 trips to places such as Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, as well as other parts of the United States and Europe.
She was very dedicated in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sports activities.
Over the years, Melba diligently visited local nursing home residents, wrote letters and sent sympathy, birthday, and get well cards to many people until her vision became impaired. For many years, her daily walks included carrying a bag to pick up trash along her route.
Melba was a loyal and dedicated KU Jayhawk fan!
Melba was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, as well as a member of Quest Club, Senior Center, and enjoyed her bridge clubs.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John; sister, Betty Eaton
She is survived by her sons:
Duff and wife, Myrna Domoney of Bixby, Oklahoma
Darcy Domoney (Nancy Mathis) of Leawood, Kansas
Dewey Domoney (Kim Davis)of Downs, Kansas
7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Services will be held at the Downs United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m.
