Betty Jane (Mayhew) Edson, 93, Plainville, KS, died January 6, 2023, at Brookdale Fairdale Assisted Living in Salina, KS surrounded by her loving family.

She was born 10 Feb 1929 on the family farm outside of Plainville. She was the daughter of Chalmar Mayhew and Anna (Cerrow) Mayhew. Her grandparents were original homesteaders in Rooks County from the 1870s.

Betty was a lifetime resident of Rooks County and graduated from Plainville Rural High School in 1947. She married Victor Olen Edson on 1 June 1948 on the Mayhew family farm and later worked as the manager of the Skogmos clothing store and as an insurance agent at the Plainville State Bank. Betty was also well known for her delicious cherry pies, butterscotch pies, and caramel popcorn. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Plainville.

She is survived by two daughters: Karol (Edson) Farahnak and Pedram of Southlake, Texas and Sheryl (Edson) Sammons and Steve of Salina, KS; three siblings: Jean Wright, Jennie Longnecker, and Delmar Mayhew; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Victor Olen Edson; daughter Vickie (Edson) Baird; grandson Todd Paulson; parents; siblings: infant Eula LaRee, child Corrine, infant triplets Dorothy Ann, Doris Mae, and Donald Dean, sisters Charlotte Hays and Gladys Cerrow, and brothers Roy Mayhew and Darrell Mayhew.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 10AM at the First Christian Church in Plainville under the direction of grandson, Tyler Paulson. Burial will follow at the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday 4-7 PM with the family greeting friends 5:30-7PM.
