Garden City- Harold "George" Redd, 91, of Garden City, Kansas, passed away on May 4, 2024. He was born in his childhood home on September 28, 1932, in Blanding, Utah, the son of John "Wiley" and Lydia (Neilson) Redd.
After graduating from high school in 1950, he entered the United States Navy in December 1951. He served as a Machinist until his honorable discharge in December 1955. Following his military service, he ventured out to Kansas to help his brothers with a sheep herding operation.
He met his beloved wife, Vana Ruth (Millard) Redd in Holcomb, KS. They eloped June 26, 1957 in Raton, New Mexico. They were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). They had their marriage solemnized in the Manti Temple, on June 26, 1965.
George embarked on a 35 year career with Brookover Feedyard where he was a Feedyard Foreman. His was hard working and committed, working six days a week for many years.
George was known for his genuine personality and his particularly peculiar nature. He was very direct and had a unique sense of humor. He valued family and relationships above all else. An avid gardener, he and his wife shared their bountiful harvest with loved ones and neighbors.
He is survived by his son, Harold Wiley Redd, Garden City, Kansas; daughter, Jura Raelene Redd and Torrance Cooper of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son in law, Clifford Lewis Williams of Garden City, Kansas. Four Grandchildren, Blair Alder Redd, Mackenzie Renee Redd Williams, Caylea Jean Redd Williams, and Jaryn Halle Rae Leak, Indianapolis, Indiana, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife, Vana Ruth, and daughter, Jana Kaye.
Visitation will be held Wednesday May 8, 2024 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, May, 9, 2024 at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Services can be viewed via the Garnand Funeral Homes Facebook Page.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Redd Family 4-H Scholarship Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
