Lila (Hysell) Berschauer, age 85

Lila Lee (Hysell) Berschauer, 85, went home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2024. She was born on July 2, 1939, on a farm outside of Geneseo, Kansas, and was the daughter of Emory Hiram and Frances Joyce (Campbell) Hysell.

She graduated from Lyons High School in 1957. On August 10, 1958, Lila married William Dean Berschauer. A resident of Albert since 1966, coming from WaKeeney, Pratt, and Great Bend, she worked at several occupations including real estate and insurance agencies, and retired of her job of 28 years from Brown’s Shoe Fit Company in 2016.

Lila was a member of Encounter Church (formerly First Assembly of God). She received her Certified Minister Credential in 2012. She was passionate in living her life for the Lord. Lila had a quiet and gentle spirit, but most of all, had a deep desire for all to know Jesus. She loved to study the Word. Lila’s favorite verse as a child was John 3:16. It was the first scripture she had ever read, which was off a pamphlet a preacher had handed out to her in school. Her favorite verse on faith was John 20:31 and favorite chapter is Psalm 23. Other hobbies included reading, cooking, canning, gardening, scrapbooking, and refurbishing antiques. Lila especially cherished spending time with her family.

Survivors include husband of 66 years, William Berschauer of Wichita; two daughters, Crystal Bieberle (Jim), and Denise Guthrie (Mark), all of Great Bend; three sons, Daren Berschauer (Marcie McEachin) of Austin, Texas, Eric Berschauer (Jena) of Valley Center, and Shawn Berschauer (Rod Kline) of Park City; brother, Richard Hysell (Mary) of Lyons; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Guthrie (Diane) of Great Bend, Dustin Guthrie (Kaci) of Woodland Park, Colorado, Blake Guthrie (Lauren) of Andover, Chelsea Laramore (Mark) of Valley Center, Trista Fritz (Charley) of Valley Center, Chase Bieberle (Jess) of Derby, Chance Berschauer (fiancée Madison) of Valley Center, and Cason Berschauer (girlfriend Andrea) of Valley Center; and seventeen great grandchildren, gaining another great grandchild the day after her passing, honored with the name “Brooklyn Lila.”

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Howe and Mary Lou Hysell; and three brothers, Hiram, Edwin, and Daniel Hysell.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2024, with family receiving guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Encounter Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North.
