Nellie Ann Boese, 88, passed away January 29, 2024, at University of Kansas Health Systems, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on September 25, 1935, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Cash and Nellie (Poland) Doty. On June 3, 1956, she was married to Ronald Boese at the First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend, Kansas. He passed on July 31, 1981.
A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Nellie spent most her working years as an associate at Walmart. In her younger years, she worked at the Barton County Courthouse as well as a seamstress in Ellinwood. Nellie was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. A lifelong voracious reader, in her teenage years she was recognized for reading every book in the Great Bend Public Library. Nellie also enjoyed sewing, playing bingo, cheering on the Kansas City Royals, and especially spending time with family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Clayton Boese and wife Connie of Lyons, and Thomas Boese and wife Donna of Cimarron; two daughters, Kelly White and husband Tom of Great Bend, and Cynthia Boese of Pratt; eight grandchildren, Kory Teliske and wife Jenna, Chasity Woods and husband Jason, Jason Boese and wife Tandy, Tiffany Strickland and husband James, Jonathan Boese and wife Rachel, Teresa Powelson and husband Shawn, Tammi Cale and husband Cody, and Tarra Foster and husband Jeremy; thirty great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Shelton of Cunningham and Ruth Evans of Attica.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; grandson, Keith Teliske; brother, Frank Doty; and four sisters, Laura Viola Wagner, Sarah Jane Mayes, Amy Densmore, and Molly Likens.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Josh and Amy Foster presiding. Interment will follow at Dundee Valley Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the First Church of the Nazarene or Great Bend Public Library, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
