🥎 HHS splits first two games at Dodge City Classic

DODGE CITY – The Hays High softball team split their first two games of the Dodge City Classic at Legends Park. The Indians beat Wichita Northwest 16-0 then lost to Derby 12-1.

Hays will play Goddard Eisenhower Friday at 10 a.m. then Maize South at 2 p.m.

Hays 16, Wichita Northwest 0 (4 innings)
Jaylee Summers didn’t allow a hit as the Indians made short work of the Grizzlies. Summers stuck out six and walked two in the run-rule victory.

Hays struck for eight runs in the bottom of the first then added four in the second and four more in the fourth.

Riley Dreher, Lanie Becker and Brynlee Rupp all had two hits. Dreher drove in four runs.

Derby 12, Hays 1 (5 innings)
The Panthers scored two in the second, three in the third and five in the third.

Hays committed six errors which resulted in eight of Derby’s runs being unearned.

The Indians were held to only two hits in the game. Alyse Zimmerman drove in the lone run with a two-out single in the second inning.

Riley Dreher allowed five runs (one earned) on three hits over two innings and took the loss.
