Marcus R. Weigel, age 92, of Hays, Kansas died September 7, 2024 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care, WaKeeney, KS, He was born July 7, 1932 in Victoria, KS to Marcus and Sophia (Nowak) Weigel.
Marcus graduated from Victoria High School, and he answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army and the Korean War. Returning home from the Korean War, Marcus met and married Pauline Rupp, February 14, 1955. They had one son, Stephen. Pauline preceded him in death June 23, 2014.
The family decided to move to Aurora. CO. and Marcus worked for Lehrer's Flowers, as a florist. After a few years, he had the opportunity to manage a condominium complex in Dillon, CO. Mark had a deep love for the Colorado Rockies and loved fishing at every opportunity he had. When the time came to retire, they retired to Hays to be closer to family.
Marcus was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; his son, Stephen;Brothers, Marvin (infant), Donald (Charlene), Leroy (Agnes), Kenneth (Betty), Darrell (Judy) and Robert; sisters, Dolores (Peter), Charlotte (Fred) and JoAnn; Brother-in-laws: Jim Brungardt and Delaine Meyers.He is survived by his siblings, Duane Weigel (Marlene) Hays, Dennis Weigel (Paula) Adair, lowa, Donna Meyers Great Bend, Carol Brungardt Wichita, and Cheryl “Sherri” Engel (Joe) McPherson, KS and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will be held at a later date in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.Memorial visitation will be Saturday 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM followed by a rosary service all at the church.
