Our beloved Mema, Diana Marie "Pelzel" Darnell, 84, of San Antonio Texas, passed away on Feb, 19, 2024 of natural causes.
Diana was born on May 5th 1939 to Alphonse and Mary Pelzel in Hays Kansas. Diana graduated from Hays High School in 1957. In 1958, Diana married William ’Don’ Darnell. Diana and Don went on to have 2 children, Donna Darnell of Clovis New Mexico and Dana Darnell of San Antonio Texas. The two raised their children both abroad and in Clovis New Mexico. During her time in Clovis, Diana worked at Cannon Air Force Base Child Development Center in the Baby Room. Diana loved her babies.
After retirement and the passing of her husband she relocated to Hays Kansas. While in Hays she spent her time reconnecting with family and friends, creating new friendships, going to exercise, trips with her peers, reading, watching Young and the Restless and chatting over the phone with her extended family.
During her last season of life, Diana relocated to San Antonio Texas to be closer to her children and grandchildren. In her last days, she was lovingly tended to by her dear friend of 55 years, Tommie Ray.
Diana was predeceased by her husband Don Darnell and parents Alfonse and Mary Pelzel. She is survived by her brothers Leon, Dave, Steve and Jerry Pelzel, and their extended families. She is also survived by her daughters Donna (Chuck) Darnell and Dana Darnell. Grandchildren Derek Hamilton, Dalon (Erica) Hamilton, Micheal Amanda (Kyle) Esty and Keaton (Samantha) Culligan. As well as Great Grandchildren Tyrin, Kamdyn, Micheala and Oliver. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Charlie.
A memorial service will be held at The Fort Sam Houston Veteran’s Cemetery in San Antonio Texas. Date to be determined.
