Margaret Mary Pechanec, 85, Timken, Kansas, died Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Margaret was born February 26, 1938, at Warnock Place near Bison, Kansas, the last child of Matthew and Velma (Hoofer) Kopsky. Margaret’s father died when she was 18 months old. Her stepfather, Leo Helfrich, and her mother raised her from age six. From her stepfather she received a deep spiritual and moral sense. She graduated from St Michael’s Catholic School and attended Bison High School.

On December 27, 1954, Margaret married Stephen C. Pechanec at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken, Kansas. To this union she had seven children. She was a stay-at-home mother and helped her husband establish the Timken Seed Company, where she held the title of Secretary/Treasurer until 2012. She was an avid reader and made many meals during harvest. She enjoyed painting. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Steve, Timken, Kansas; her children, Susan (Alan) Urban, La Crosse, Kansas, L. Douglas (Donna) Pechanec, Califon, New Jersey, Deborah (Donald) Erb, Timken, Kansas, James (Karen) Pechanec, Bison, Kansas, Joseph (Raina) Pechanec, Timken, Kansas, Beth Ann (Kirk) Leiker, La Crosse, Kansas, and Thomas (Linda) Pechanec, Timken, Kansas; her 20 grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Urban, Jake (Aubrey) Urban, Sarah (Brian) Axman, Rebekah (Courtney) Morse, Kate (Cory) Reece, Daniel Erb, Dana (Eddie) Kamintzky, Christopher (Cheryl Rauh) Urban, Eric (Lindsey) Frey, Tara (John) Romano, Rachel (Richard) Chushuk, Bradley Pechanec, and Sandra Garcia, Brandon (Chelsie) Pechanec, Kimberly (Ana) Plaza, Cassidy Pechanec, Adam Leiker, Hannah (Dalton) Norton, Noah Pechanec, Garrett Leiker, and Sierra Pechanec; her 24 great-grandchildren, Ethan Axman, Owen Reece, Kylee Reece, Henry Morse, Brady Axman, Elle Axman, Pearl Urban, Harper Urban, Brooke Axman, Gavin Reece, Claire Morse, Oliver Urban, Nathan Erb, Millie Erb, Paul Chushuk, Lily Pechanec, Bentley Pechanec, EJ Kamintzky, Lucas Norton, JT Romano, Diana Kamintzky, Maggie Chushuk, Beau Axman, and Lucas Pechanec; two sisters-in-law, Vernie Kopsky, and Annie Pechanec; one brother-in-law, Ivan (Linda) Pechanec; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, whom she adored; and her siblings, Vern Kopsky, Virgil (Marge) Kopsky, Velma (Chet) Atkinson, Vera (OJ) Peach, and Jeane (Don) Schmidt.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas. A rosary will be at 6:00 p.m.

Church visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Monday, October 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka and Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Timken, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas, or Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.
